FSC Skaters Advance to Nationals - A Review of a Successful Competition Season

The Figure Skating Club of Bloomington skaters are enjoying much success, not only at the state and regional levels but nationally and internationally as well. Congratulations to the accomplishments of our home club athletes. We wish them much success in the upcoming rounds of competition and are proud to send them off representing our club!

Kiri Baga was scheduled to compete at the 2011 Figure Skating Championship on Jan. 22-30th, in Greensboro, N.C. in Senior Ladies, but withdrew this week due to injury. Last season, Kiri placed fourth in Junior Ladies at the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Kiri represented the United States in the 2009 Junior Grand Prix Circuit and has had great international success in Dresden, Germany, placing 1st, Istanbul, Turkey, placing 1st and the Grand Prix final in Tokyo, Japan where she placed 7th. In the 2010 circuit she traveled in September to Karuizawa, Japan winning 2nd and to Ostrava, Czech Republic in October, placing 5th. Kiri qualified for the final in Beijing, China, but withdrew due to injury. She also represented the U.S. at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2010, The Hague, Netherlands, placing 7th. Kiri won the silver medal in Senior Ladies at the 2011 Minnesota State Competition in Eagan, MN. Congratulations Kiri!

Kate Charbonneau represents Canada and will compete in the Senior Ladies in the 2011 Canadian National Championship, Jan. 21-23, in Victoria, British Columbia. Kate competed in October in the Canadian Western/Eastern Challenge in Ontario, Canada. Kate is the 2009 Canadian Junior National Champion. Last year Kate was chosen to represent Canada in the Junior Grand Prix Circuit, finishing 8th at the 2009 Junior Grand Prix Roarun Cup 2009 in Torun, Poland and in the Junior Grand Prix in Zagreb, Croatia, placing 2nd. Kate competed again in the 2010 Junior Grand Prix, in September in Graz, Austria placing 15th and in October in Dresden, Germany placing 13th. In March, Kate placed 6th at the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2010 in The Hague, Netherlands.

Cale Ambroz has progressed to US Nationals by earning 4th at the Upper Great Lakes Regional Competition, on October 3-6th in Green Bay, WI. This qualified him to compete at sectionals in Ann Arbor, MI, where he won 4th, qualifying him for his first trip to the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Novice Men. Cale was the 2011 Minnesota State Novice Men Silver Medalist.

Colton Johnson competed at the U.S. Figure Skating Junior Nationals Competition, in Intermediate Men level. Colton was the 2011 Upper Great Lakes Intermediate Champion and the 2011 Minnesota State Intermediate Men Silver Medalist.

Onia Gelecinskyj competed in Senior Ladies for the first time at the 2011 U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championship in August in Lansing, MI.
